The Harry Potter Films
"It's literature, it is about what we are
like, about deeper things than just telling stories. It's just that it's
aimed at an audience who don't drink a lot of chardonnay."
-- Robbie Coltrane ("Hagrid")

SCHOLASTIC INTERVIEW (October 16, 2000)
What do you think about the movie? Do you think that it'll destroy the adventure
of the books?
If I believed that, I wouldn't have sold the film rights!
Are you having a lot of input on the new Harry Potter movie?
I've been allowed a lot of input. They have been very generous in allowing me to make my opinions heard!
How hard was it to pick the actors to play the characters in the movie?
I didn't pick them, so easy for me! But I think they are wonderful.
AOL CHAT (October 19, 2000)
Ms. Rowling, do you think that making a Harry Potter movie will help people
understand the books or will it ruin the imagination for the books?
I don't think people need help understanding the books. I hope the film will be really good and not disappoint the fans. Personally, I can't wait to watch Quidditch.
J.K. ROWLING'S WORLD BOOK DAY CHAT (March 4, 2004)
How were you involved in making the Harry Potter films and did Hogwarts look
like you had imagined it?
Hogwarts looks just as I imagined it. It was the most bizarre experience when I walked onto the set of the Great Hall; it really was like walking into my own brain.
Do you think that the films reflect well on the books?
I think they're pretty faithful to the books. Hogwarts looks just as I imagined it; I had a lot of input on how the various locations look.
Were you consulted at all when the actors were chosen for the movie?
Yes, Chris Columbus, who was the director of the first film, asked me if there was anybody I thought would be good and I said 'RobbieColtraneForHagrid' in one breath.
Do you think a film no longer than the first two films can do justice to
a book as long and complex as Goblet
I think that they will have to simplify the plot somewhat. Steve Kloves, the scriptwriter, is really good and if anyone can do the essence of the book justice, he can.
Would you like to see the same actors portray the trio in all 7 movies?
Yes, I would. I really like all three of them.
